UChicago track and field wins five individual titles at first day of UAA Outdoor Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Chicago women's track and field team grabbed the first day lead with four victories at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships on Saturday.

The Maroons lead the seven-team women's field with 76 points, followed by Case Western Reserve University with 53 points. On the men's side, UChicago is fourth with 35 points while Washington University-St. Louis leads with 85 points.

The top performance of the day came courtesy of the women's 4x800-meter relay. The foursome of junior Brianna Hickey, freshman Cassidy McPherson, senior Jennifer Uehling and sophomore Michelle Dobbs won the race in a UAA-record time of 9:07.68. The Maroons broke the old conference record by nearly 10 seconds.

UChicago's women won three of the four field events on the day with six all-conference performers. Junior Nkemdilim Nwaokolo was a double winner in the shot put and the hammer throw. Nwaokolo threw the top shot put 12.31 meters, while freshman teammate Ade Ayoola placed third at 11.71 meters. In the hammer throw, Nwaokolo beat the field by more than 12 feet with a mark of 49.95 meters. Senior Kelly Wood was third in the hammer throw at 42.35 meters. Senior Pam Yu triumphed in the long jump by a mere 0.03 meters (1.25 inches) with a mark of 5.23 meters. Junior Rachael Jackson was third with leap of 5.05 meters.

UChicago's men were led by senior Kevin On, who won the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:56.66. On beat out the runner-up by four seconds.
