NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago track and field teams looked to improve their season marks in advance of the postseason at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
With two weeks until the start of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, the Maroons sent a contingent of athletes to North Central's track. The UChicago women placed in the top five in six different events, including two victories. Sophomore Michelle Dobbs won the 800 meters by a mere 0.06 seconds (2:09.73), while freshman Ade Ayoola tied for the top height in the high jump and won on a tiebreaker.
Senior Pam Yu was runner-up in the long jump at 5.28 meters. Junior Brianna Hickey posted a time of 4:33.94 in the 1,500 meters. The foursome of sophomore Eleanor Kang, junior Mikaela Hammel, junior Alison Pildner and Dobbs finished third in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:54.16. Freshman Claire Costelloe rounded out the top finishers by placing fifth in the 10,000 meters (38:02.59).
UChicago's men were led by sophomore Andrew Maneval in the javelin. Maneval finished second with a top throw of 46.90 meters. The 4x100-meter relay was third at 41.58 with the quartet of sophomore Temisan Osowa, freshman Nathan Downey, junior Ben Clark and junior Jacob Romeo. Junior Liam Ward's top lead of 13.11 meters in the triple jump placed fifth overall.
