ATLANTA, Ga. – Junior thrower Alexander Scott led the way for the University of Chicago men's track & field team on Day 1 of the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships, hosted Saturday at Emory University.
Scott earned two all-UAA finishes and captured the men's team's lone title of the day, earning the best throw in the hammer with a mark of 49.34 meters. He followed that up with a runner-up finish in the shot put (15.17 meters) to net his 9th and 10th career all-conference honor.
In the running event prelims, the Maroons had seven men qualify for Sunday's finals, including first-year Cameron Edgington, who earned the second-fastest time in the 400 hurdles prelims at 55.73 seconds.
Junior Tyson Miller qualified for two finals events – the 100 (6th, 11.10) and the 200 (5th, 22.25).
Also netting points in finals events for the Maroons were Ansel Richards (sixth) and Chase Gardner (seventh) in the 10,000 meters; Will Shine (sixth) in the 3,000 steeplechase; and the 4x800 relay of Owen Melia, Mitchell Booth, Nathan Goldthwaite and Akshay Mody (fifth).
After seven events scored, the UChicago men stood in fourth of seven teams with 30 points.
