DUBUQUE, Iowa – In the wake of last weekend's University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, the University of Chicago track and field teams improved marks in various events at the Loras College Dr. Tucker Open on Friday.
All told, UChicago captured two women's titles and one men's title. The women's pole vault saw the Maroons go one-two with junior Isabel Garon in first at 3.50 meters and first-year Rachel TerHaar in second at 3.20 meters. First-year Isabel Maletich was the easy winner in the triple jump, leaping 11.87 meters. The men's 5,000 meters was captured by sophomore Jack Barbour in 15:24.97. He was closely followed by first-year Max Hill in second place at 15:25.17.
The Maroons women also secured runner-up finishes in four other races – first-year Kaitlyn Van Baalen in the 800 meters (2:18.87), senior Nicole VacaGuzman in the 400 meters (56.67), junior Claire Brockway in the 1,500 meters (4:44.74) and sophomore Ella Parker in the high jump (1.43 meters).
