CHICAGO – A record-setting performance by University of Chicago track & field's Alexander Scott was rewarded with NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.
Scott became the first UChicago athlete to be named National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season. The senior thrower accomplished the feat with a school-record shot put toss of 17.53 meters at the season-opening Phoenix Invitational on Saturday. That marks shattered his previous school record 16.57 meters. Scott now ranks No. 1 in all of NCAA Division III in the shot put.
The senior also added a winning weight throw heave of 16.05 meters, which ranks 22nd in the nation.
