UChicago Track & Field Competes at Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. – In a field full of NCAA Division I and II opposition, the University of Chicago track & field teams impressed with a plethora of top 10 finishes at the Grand Valley State University Open on Friday.

In the final team standings, the men and women both finished 10th overall among the 23 total teams in attendance.

The men were paced by senior Alexander Scott in the throws. Scott was runner-up in the weight throw with a heave of 16.13 meters, and also took third place in the shot put at 16.85 meters. Junior Ted Falkenhayn was third in the triple jump with a top mark of 13.49 meters. Junior Ryan Cutter rounded out the top-five finishers by taking fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:29.24). All told, the men had 10 placements in the top 10 of an event.

The UChicago women had nine performances rank in an event's top 10 on the day. Senior Laura Darcey led the way in the high jump, tying for third at 1.60 meters. She was also part of the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay (4:04.42) alongside first-year Isabel Layne, senior Mary Martin and first-year Jade Dombroski. Sophomore Isabel Maletich was fourth in the long jump at 5.54 meters.
