UChicago Track & Field Wins Three Events on Day One of UAA Indoor Championships

NEW YORK – The University of Chicago track and field teams got off to a fast start on the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

All told, the Maroons won three events during the evening session.

In the women's long jump, Isabel Maletich shattered the UAA meet record with a huge leap of 5.93 meters – the previous best UAA mark was 5.76 meters. The sophomore remains the national leader in the event, improving on her previous season best of 5.88 meters and breaking her own school record in the process. Senior Laura Darcey also surpassed the old meet record with a jump of 5.77 meters to finish in second place.

The women's distance medley relay also crossed the finish line first in a time of 12:07.81. The relay consisted of Zoe Smith, Isabel Layne, Sarika Temme-Bapat and Sophie Elgamal.

The men's weight throw featured a one-two showing by the Maroons. Senior Alexander Scott earned the title with a toss of 15.92 meters. Junior teammate Christopher Dann was runner-up with a distance of 15.32 meters.

UChicago submitted five additional All-UAA performances by junior Ryan Cutter (second in 5,000 meters), senior Claire Brockway (second in 5,000 meters), senior Maggie Boudreau (third in 5,000 meters), senior Isabel Garon (second in pole vault) and first-year Opeoluwa Olusi (third in weight throw).
