Maroon Track & Field Squads Finish Second at UAA Indoor Championships

NEW YORK – The University of Chicago track and field teams both submitted second-place team finishes at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday.

Washington University – St. Louis earned the men's (201 points) and women's (168 points) team titles. The Maroon women were close on their heels with 161.33 points while the men tallied 115 points in the final standings.

On the women's side, UChicago won three events on the day. Sophomore Isabel Maletich claimed the triple jump with a leap of 12.08 meters to add to her long jump title from the previous day. Senior Laura Darcey was victorious in the high jump with a top height of 1.64 meters. The 4x400-meter relay also won in 3:54.06 with the quartet of Aleeza Hassan, Meg Fitzpatrick, Isabel Layne and Mary Martin.

Three more Maroon women earned All-UAA status. Junior Sophie Elgamal was second in the one mile, Darcey was runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles and senior Maggie Boudreau was third in the 3,000 meters.

On the men's side, UChicago claimed two titles. Senior Alexander Scott obliterated the UAA meet record in the men's shot put. On his final throw of the day, he heaved the shot 17.68 meters – a new school record and the second-best mark in NCAA Division III this season. The previous UAA meet record was 16.47 meters. Scott won the event by nearly nine feet over the runner-up.

Junior Ryan Cutter picked up the win in the 3,000 meters as well, finishing in 8:25.95.

The Maroons submitted four additional All-UAA performances. Sophomore Wilson Hansen took second in the 200 meters and was also part of the runner-up 4x400-meter relay team alongside Elliott Paintsil, Harry Moore and Tyson Miller. Junior Nike Reid was third in the 60 meters and first-year Christian Sodano took third in the pole vault.
