CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's and women's cross country teams were both named 2012 Cross Country All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on February 22. Additionally, five members of the women's squad were All-Academic honorees as individuals.
The Maroons achieved a 3.506 cumulative GPA on the men's side, while the women's cumulative GPA stood at 3.497. A total of 141 men's teams and 197 women's teams earned the academic honor in NCAA Division III.
Five UChicago women gained recognition as All-Academic individuals as well - freshman Maggie Cornelius, freshman Brianna Hickey, senior Julia Sizek, junior Michaela Whitelaw and junior Elise Wummer.
The USTFCCCA All-Academic Team requirement is a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or better for the entire team. A cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better is the bench mark for individual All-Academic honorees.
