ELMHURST, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's cross country team took third place as a team in its season-opening run the Elmhurst College Early Bird Invitational on Friday.
North Central College dominated with a first-place point total of 28. DePaul University was second with 56 points and Chicago was third with 62 points. The next closest team was 100 points behind.
All-American Billy Whitmore took finished third individually in 19:00.7 to lead the Chicago racers. Renat Zalov also finished in the top 10 with a seventh-place showing in 19:10.7. Teammates Taylor McDowell took 15th (19:30.5), Isaac Dalke was 17th (19:34.7), Kevin On finished 20th (19:38.5), Michael Frasco was 23rd (19:45.9) and Wyatt Jones took 24th (19:50.6).
The Maroons return to action at 5 PM next Friday at the Aurora University Invitational.
