CHANNAHON, Ill. – In the first meet of the 2018 season, the University of Chicago cross country teams dominated across the board to take home the team titles at the University of St. Francis Twilight Invitational on Friday.

On the 5K course, the UChicago women raced past all the opposition, taking first of 14 teams with a mere 19 points. Host St. Francis finished a distant second with 76 points. The Maroon men were first of 13 teams with 22 points, while St. Francis was runner-up with 45 points.

Maroon runners clogged the top of the final results sheets. UChicago's men swept the top three places, led by first-year Henry Myers and his winning time of 15:40.5 in his collegiate debut. Sophomores Ryan Cutter (15:49.5) and Chase Gardner (15:49.7) finished neck and neck behind their teammate. All told, the men placed six in the top 10.

The women replicated the feat of having six runners among the top 10 placers. Sophomore Sophie Elgamal was the winner by six seconds in a time of 18:20.5. Sophomore teammate Emma Dyer was second at 18:26.6, while junior Claire Brockway and sophomore Abigail Shoemaker were fourth and fifth, respectively.
