WINNECONNE, Wis. – The University of Chicago men's and women's cross teams put together two individual All-American performances and both squads placed in the Top 12 for a solid showing at the 2018 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Saturday.

Washington-St. Louis won the women's team title with 98 points, edging runner-up Johns Hopkins (99) by one at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. Perennial champion North Central (Ill.) College easily won the men's team title with 43 points.

The UChicago women, led by sophomore Sophie Elgamal's All-American, 26th-place finish, took 11th place out of 32 teams, besting their 2017 finish by three places in the process. It also marked the highest national finish for the Maroon women since 2013, when UChicago placed fourth.

On the men's side, it was sophomore Ryan Cutter who earned his first All-American finish, crossing the line in 20th place to lead UChicago – who was in its first national meet since 2015 -- to a 12th-place finish. That placing marks the second-best ever finish by the Maroon men, who took ninth in 2005.

Elgamal finished the race in a time of 21 minutes, 46 seconds to earn her first All-American award, which is presented to the Top 40 finishers in the 279-runner race. Sophomore Emma Dyer was the next finisher in 65th (22:18), and juniors Maggie Boudreau (22:28) and Claire Brockway (22:29) formed a tight pack just inside 100, placing 90th and 92nd, respectively.

Rounding out the scorers for the UChicago women were first-year Lucy Jeffs (204th, 23:18) and sophomore Abigail Shoemaker (229th, 23:35).

With Cutter leading the way for the men, first-year Henry Myers nearly broke the Top 50, placing 52nd in the 8K race with a time of 25:08. Next were Chase Gardner (123rd, 25:44), Andrew Kates (146th, 25:51) and Sam Craig (195th, 26:07).

Rounding out the men's scorers were Ansel Richards (228th, 26:26) and Tim Koenning (257th, 26:56).
