CHICAGO – After an impressive win in a strong field in just his first race of the season, University of Chicago junior Ryan Cutter was honored with his first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III National Athlete of the Week honor.
Cutter crossed the finish line in Saturday's Gil Dodds Invitational 8-kilometer race in a winning time of 25:18.1, a full second of second-place finisher Matt Osmulski of North Central College, who took 11th at the NCAA national meet in 2018.
It was Cutter's first collegiate cross country win and it helped the Maroon men take third in a highly competitive field that featured the perennial national champion NCC squad.
Cutter's honor also marked the first time in UChicago men's cross country program history earned the USTCCCA national award. On the women's side, former UChicago student-athlete Brianna Hickey marked the first female athlete to earn the award.
