CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Chicago softball team concluded its 12-game spring break Florida trip with a pair of losses to University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday.
The Maroons went 5-7 over the course of the week.
Game One – Wisconsin-Oshkosh 11, UChicago 0
The opening game ended after five innings as the Titans raced away with an offensive burst. A nine-run first frame saw UWO collect six hits while drawing two walks and two hit-by-pitches. They added two more runs in the third inning to account for the final score.
Game Two – Wisconsin-Oshkosh 5, UChicago 2
The Maroons cracked the scoreboard in the first inning of game two with sophomore catcher Gabi Angellotti's RBI single through the left side.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh tied it up in the top of the third with a leadoff homer, but UChicago answered in its half of the frame when junior shortstop Emma Nelson roped a RBI single to the opposite field.
The Maroons came close to expanding the advantage by loading the bases with one out in the fourth. But a pair of infield pop outs ended the threat. UWO responded by tying it at 2-2 in the fifth and pushed across three more in the sixth on three-consecutive singles.
Offensively, UChicago's bats racked up 11 hits. The defense committed three errors. Angellotti batted 3-for-4. Nelson, sophomore outfielder Abby Hayes and first-year outfielder Samantha Lauro all had two hits apiece.
First-year pitcher Bethany Regnerus (3-2 record) absorbed the loss after throwing all seven innings.
