WHITEWATER, Wis. – Maeve Garvey homered twice but the University of Chicago softball team fell in two games to host Wisconsin-Whitewater by scores of 10-2 and 9-1 Saturday.

The senior belted a two-run shot in Game 1 and added another solo homer in the day's second game to put her career total at 14.

The Maroons return to action with their home opener when UChicago hosts Kalamazoo College in a twin bill starting at 1 p.m. CT at Stagg Field.

UW-Whitewater 10, UChicago 2 (5 innings)
The Maroons (6-10) struggled to put points on the board and the host Warhawks capitalized with a five-run fifth in a shortened opener.

Senior Maeve Garvey proved to be the Maroons' lone bright spot in Game 1, as her two-run home run over the left center fence in the third provided UChicago's scoring for the game. UW-Whitewater (11-5) starter Bella Mathias improved to 5-1 with her fourth-hit performance, as UChicago first-year Katie O'Donnell, junior Emma Nelson, and senior Colleen Bennett added singles for the Maroons.

The Warhawks plated two unearned runs in the first inning – capitalizing off a UChicago error – to take a quick 2-0 lead. Garvey would lead the Maroons to tie it up in the top of the third, before UWW responded with a three-run bottom half – all unearned.

Jordyne Prussak took the loss in the four-inning stint, striking out two and scattering six hits while allowing just one earned run.

UW-Whitewater 9, UChicago 1 (5-innings)
The Warhawks opened Game 2 with a six-run first-inning and took all the momentum from there to take the series sweep. UWW was again able to capitalize on UChicago miscues, as all six runs were unearned due to two errors.

Garvey's second home run of the day – a solo shot in the fourth – was again the lone offensive highlight as UChicago was held to five hits by UWW starter Julia Camardo. Katie ODonnell, Nelson, Garvey and Christine Ambrose added singles for UChicago.

UWW added two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to secure its second five-inning victory.
