TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Chicago women's basketball team kicked off action at the Pacific Northwest Tournament with a 74-57 victory at Pacific Lutheran University on Friday.

The Maroons improved to 6-2 on the season and dropped the Lutes to 3-4 in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

While the first quarter played out closely at 15-14, UChicago went on a 12-2 run in the second quarter to go ahead 30-18. Junior forward Britta Nordstrom scored a layup in the final 30 seconds of the half and freshman guard Katrina Williams sank a three-pointer with three seconds remaining to put the visitors up 37-22 at halftime.

Williams hit all three of her shots from beyond the arc en route to 11 points in the first half. Nordstrom was right behind with 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field. PLU grabbed 13 offensive boards by the break, but only shot 23 percent overall. UChicago took advantage of miscues and led the points off turnovers category 12-0.

The Lutes got back into the game by starting the third quarter on a 12-3 streak to get within 40-34. But UChicago held strong thanks in part to the post play of Olariche Obi. The freshman forward started to score in the paint, and her and-one three-point play gave the Maroons a 56-41 advantage late in the quarter.

Then it was junior Stephanie Anderson's turn to get the offense rolling. The guard scored seven of nine-straight UChicago points and her three-pointer stretched the score to 65-46 midway through the fourth quarter. That margin proved too much to overcome as the Maroons cruised to the 74-57 victory.

Anderson and Williams both recorded 14 points on the night, with Williams hitting all four attempts from three-point range. Obi posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Nordstrom finished with 11 points.

Second-chance points went UChicago's way by a 20-4 margin in the final statistics. The Maroons also led points off turnovers 26-9. The visitors outrebounded the hosts 47-37 and both squads turned the ball over 21 times.
