PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The No. 18 University of Chicago women's basketball team mounted a fourth-quarter comeback, but couldn't overcome a slow start in a 63-53 loss at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Senior guard Mia Farrell led the Maroons with a game-high 22 points, while senior guard Taylor Lake totaled 13, eclipsing 1,000 career points along the way.

Lake entered the contest with 988 points and reached the 1,000-point milestone on a layup that cut UW-Platteville's lead to six points, 59-53, with 29 seconds remaining. UW-Platteville held off the Maroons in the final seconds to win by a 10-point margin.

Lake became the 14th player in UChicago women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points and is currently tied with Kate Poneta (1993-97) on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,001 points.

Farrell pumped in 15 of her 22 points in the second half, including 11 points in the fourth quarter. She shot 61.5 percent for the game, hitting 8 of 13 shots from the field. She also grabbed four rebounds.

UW-Platteville raced out to a 22-9 lead in the first quarter and held a 36-24 advantage at halftime. The Maroons outscored the Pioneers 21-13 in a late fourth quarter rally, but it was too little too late, as UChicago's record fell to 1-3 on the season.

The Pioneers shot an even 40 percent from the field, slightly better than UChicago at 35.1 percent. UW-Platteville also held the edge on rebounds, 34-27. UChicago sophomore forward Klaire Steffens had a game-high nine rebounds and added six points.
