CHICAGO – Miranda Burt's stellar shooting performance kept visiting Kenyon College at bay as the No. 18 University of Chicago women's basketball team held off the Ladies on Sunday, 89-74, to complete the 2019 Midway Classic with a perfect 2-0 record.

Burt was unconscious from behind the arc, as the senior guard set a new school record with eight made 3-pointers to finish with a career-high 26 points. She finished 8-of-16 from the field and 8-of-12 from 3-point land, including three makes in the final quarter.

Senior Taylor Lake added 15 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks, senior Mia Farrell had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, sophomore Klaire Steffens added 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals and sophomore Elizabeth Shaw chipped in 11 points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting off the bench.

Kenyon (3-3) opened the game with energy despite coming off a tough loss to Trine 24 hours prior to tipoff. Grace Connery's 3 kick-started a 7-0 run to put the host Maroons behind early. Burt's first triple at the 6:01 mark helped bring her squad back, as UChicago ended the first quarter on a 29-14 run.

Burt wasn't the only Maroon connecting from deep, as the Farrell and Shaw both drained triples in the second quarter to help push the advantage to 56-40 at halftime. Kenyon would use a solid third frame – outscoring the Maroons 16-12 – to enter the fourth quarter down 68-56.

Ellie Schaub's layup at the 8:44 mark cut UChicago's lead to just eight, 70-62, with 8:44 to play, but it was Burt again to stall the Ladies' charge, as she made her seventh 3 of the game in response. Lake added a layup and Burt hit No. 8 at the 6:25 mark to push the Maroons' lead back to 12, 78-66.

Kenyon would get no closer, as UChicago (4-2) closed out it's third-straight win and second of the tournament after defeating No. 11 Trine Friday night in overtime, 79-70.

Burt's eight 3s topped the previous record of six, held by five different players: Bryanne Halfhill (2011), Korry Schwanz (2005), Laura Hebel (2002), Amy Still (1996) and Vicki Wittman (1993).

UChicago first-year Grace Hynes had 11 rebounds and four steals and Burt added four assists for the Maroons. Paige Matijasich led Kenyon with 24 points.
