NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The No. 20 University of Chicago women's basketball dominated early and often en route to its eighth-straight victory in Wednesday night's 80-52 win at North Central College.

The Maroons' (9-2) winning streak dates back to Nov. 20 in a win at then-ranked 14 Wheaton. UChicago heads into the holiday break with a 23-day layoff before starting University Athletic Association play at Washington-St. Louis on Jan. 11.

Senior Miranda Burt and sophomore Klaire Steffens (eight rebounds) each had 14 points to lead the visitors and rookie Lucy Schmid added a career-high 12 points off the bench, shooting 5-of-7 of the field in 12 minutes.

UChicago jumped out to a 16-12 lead after one quarter and then really set the tone in the second frame, outscoring the host Cardinals (4-6) 23-13 to take a commanding 39-25 advantage at the break.

It was all Maroons in the third frame with a 28-14 advantage as UChicago went into the fourth up, 67-39. Burt had 10 of 14 points in the second half to lead the visitors.

The Maroons defense forced the Cardinals into 21 turnover for the game, converting those into 25 points. UChicago shot a crisp 44.9 percent (31-of-69) from the field compared to 26.4 percent (14-of-53) for NCC, and the Maroons outrebounded the Cardinals, 38-28.

UChicago also dominated in the paint, 44-16.

Rookie Grace Hynes and senior Mia Farrell added eight points each and sophomore Alina Brennan had seven points to add to the Maroons' offense.

Page Desenberg had 17 points to lead the Cardinals in the setback.
