CHICAGO The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team made an emphatic entrance to school history in its first-ever varsity contest, dominating DePauw University 18-4 on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

Those who braved the freezing rain saw UChicago put on a first-half offensive clinic with 13 goals. At the heart of the Maroon attack was first-year midfielder Karina Schulze, who darted through the defense to score eight times, including seven in the first half. Supplementing her effort, first-year attackers Isabelle Moran and Lally Johnson recorded three goals apiece in the game.

UChicago's dominance began from the draw, where the Maroons boasted a 18-5 advantage over the Tigers. First-year midfielder Audrey Kaus collected nine draw controls and Schulze gathered seven. Although the hosts maintained the bulk of possession throughout the game, the defense stepped up when called upon, limiting DePauw to 12 shots while UChicago compiled 31 attempts. First-year defender Kathleen Harrigan caused four turnovers to compound the Tigers' difficulties.

The Maroons did not have to wait long for the first goal in program history, which came courtesy of Schulze from a free position just one minute and 18 seconds into the game. After Schulze nabbed her second of the day with an assist from first-year midfielder Ali Sheehy, DePauw got on the board in the sixth minute of action.

Schulze answered 21 seconds later and, after chasing down the ensuing draw, deposited another just 13 seconds after that. Those two goals were the first of 12 straight for UChicago, a run that would last into the second half.

DePauw kept up the fight with three second-half goals, but the Maroons tallied five to keep the contest comfortably in hand. Waves of substitutions ensured the entire UChicago roster saw the field and had ample opportunity to benefit from game experience.
