CHICAGO – Two games into its existence as a varsity sport, the University of Chicago women's lacrosse team has two routs in the win column. The Maroons improved on their debut effort with a 19-3 home victory over Concordia University Chicago on Tuesday evening.

It took less than a minute for UChicago to get on the board. Midfielder Audrey Kaus slung the ball into the net at 29:16 off an assist by attacker Isabelle Moran. The floodgates opened with five goals in four minutes. Tallies were provided by Moran twice, midfielder Abbey Pouba and midfielder Karina Schulze, who also dished out two assists in that time.

The Cougars took advantage of a yellow card to score while playing up one player to make it 5-1 at 22:28. But UChicago remained undeterred and posted eight more goals before halftime to take a 13-1 lead into the break.

CUC scored twice early in the second half, but could not mount a comeback as the Maroon offense continued to run efficiently despite biting temperatures in the 20s. The running clock sped the second half along to an early conclusion. All told, the hosts scored on 19 of their 32 shots, while Concordia Chicago converted three of eight attempts.

Draw controls were one-sided 16-8 in UChicago's favor, with Schulze securing nine herself. The Maroons went 11-for-13 on clears while CUC struggled at 9-for-18. All told, the Cougars turned the ball over 20 times and the Maroons came away with 16 ground balls.

A balanced scoring effort saw seven different UChicago players with at least two goals. Kaus led the barrage with four goals and one assist, while attacker Lally Johnson was close behind with three goals and one assist. Schulze contributed across the board with two goals, three assists and six groundballs. Midfielder Ali Sheehy added two goals and two assists while attempting a team-high eight shots.

In goal, Honor Crandell made two saves with three goals allowed.
