NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team won its second road game in as many days with a hard-fought 16-10 win at St. Mary's College (Ind.) Sunday afternoon.

The Maroons (10-1) won their 10th game of the year against the Belles (7-5), using another strong second half to pull away after leading 7-4 at halftime. Saturday, UChicago took down North Central College, 19-9.

First-years Karina Schulze and Ali Sheehy each had five goals on the day, with Schulze adding nine draw controls and two assists. The nine draw controls gave the rookie 102 for her career – in just 11 games.

Classmate Anne Sensenig added three goals and Anna Rosloniec had four assists. Maroons Lally Johnson, Abbey Pouba and Sarah Bloomquist each added a score to round out the offensive totals for UChicago.

St. Mary's opened the game with the first score, and would go on to take a 2-1 lead after Sensenig provided UChicago's opening goal. But that was the last time the Belles would hold the advantage, as two back-to-back goals by Schulze gave the Maroons their first lead of the game at 3-2.

The hosts would pull within two, 6-4, with 2:41 left in the half, but a free position goal by Schulze at the 2-minute warning helped her squad take a 7-4 lead at the break. The second half proved to be back-and-forth, with UChicago again holding a slight two-goal edge, 8-6, with 18:11 left.

But a four-goal flurry – three by Sheehy and another by Schulze – by the visitors in the next four minutes provided the game-clinching momentum the Maroons needed to hold on for the victory.

Maroons goalie Honor Crandell stopped nine shots as UChicago led in shots, 37-27, though both teams tied in draw controls at 14-14. The Maroons created 15 free position shots – scoring on five – while holding the Belles to just six free position shots (they made two).

For UChicago's defense, Adriana Shutler led with nine ground balls and earned two draw controls and Bri Fadden and Crandell each had five ground balls.
