LA CROSSE, Wis. – University of Chicago's Steve Bonsall placed eighth at 157 pounds to wrap up the two-day NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Saturday.
The freshman grappler wrapped up his debut season with a team-best record of 33-14. By finishing in the top eight, Bonsall earned All-American status. He is the first UChicago wrestling All-American since 2014 (Charlie Banaszak, fourth place at 141 pounds).
In the consolation draw, Bonsall's first opponent of the day was Jimmy Davis (Loras College). Davis defeated the freshman 8-3. Bonsall completed his postseason run with the seventh-place match, falling 11-5 to Ty Herzog (Roger Williams University).
