ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The No. 23 University of Chicago wrestling squad wrapped up its final dual match before the University Athletic Association Championships with a clutch 27-21 victory at Augustana College Friday.

The Maroons (8-3) found themselves down 18-0 before pulling off the comeback, as Chaise Hauck, Jason Crary, Kahlan Lee-Lermer, Nick Ferraro, John Jayne and Will Hare teamed up to win five of the final six matches.

Ferraro earned a pin over the Vikings' (1-11) Josh Bush at the 6:07 mark in his 174-pound match as did Jayne – with 2:59 on the clock – in his 197-pound match against Trystan Schoonover.

One of best matches didn't end up in the Maroons' favor, but first-year Dominick Reo put up a battle against his nationally-ranked opponent, eventually falling 7-6 to Augustanta's Christos Giatras at 184 pounds.

"We walked into Carver Arena with four freshmen, a sophomore, a junior and a senior, and fell behind 18-0 before first (actual) match)," Head Coach Leo Kocher said. "Clearly Auggie is a little down this year, but they put 10 on the mat. I guess the lesson is never give up. Our best match might have been our only loss – Dom had a nationally-ranked opponent on the ropes the entire match until the last 30 seconds."

The Maroons lost by forfeit in the first three matches of the evening.
