NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago wrestling team received big contributions from the middle of their lineup in a 22-15 loss to North Central College on Friday.
The Maroons evened their dual meet record at 1-1, while the Cardinals improved to 5-2.
The host NCC ran out to a quick 11-0 lead after the opening three matches. However, UChicago countered by winning four-straight weight classes. First-year Cole Riemer got the Maroons onto the scoreboard with a 5-3 decision at 149 pounds. Junior Steve Bonsall followed up at 157 pounds with a third-period pin. Fellow junior Kahlan Lee-Lermer gave his team the lead at 165 pounds with a 4-0 shutout, which was the same score secured by junior Kyle Peisker at 174 pounds. Peisker extended his winning streak to nine-straight matches.
Trailing 15-11, North Central got back on track with two decisions and one pin to end the contest. The Cardinals were docked one point for unsportsmanlike conduct for a final score of 22-15.
