ELMHURST, Ill. – The University of Chicago wrestling team came away with three weight-class champions to help propel the Maroons to a third-place finish in Saturday's Al Hanke Invitational hosted by Elmhurst College.

First-year Maguire Pecci (149), junior Kyle Peisker (174) and senior Patrick Mulkerin (285) all took home titles and the Maroons scored 94 points to take third in the twelve-team event, behind team champion St. John's (124 points) and runner-up Elmhurst (121 points).

Pecci pinned two of his opponents and had a major decision against the other, taking down two-seeded Ulises Jacobo of Harper College at the 3:31 mark in the 149-pound final.

At 174, Peisker had another strong outing, pinning his first opponent in 56 seconds before winning by technical fall and two decisions to reach the final. In the championship match, he defeated two-seeded Drew Matticks of Milwaukee School of Engineering in a 13-5 major decision to take the crown.

Mulkerin – a three seed – finished off the Maroon titles with four decision wins in the heavyweight bracket, topping North Central's Isiah Ziegler 4-2 in the championship match.

"We had some of our pretty talented guys stay home today – we covered just seven weight classes so putting five Maroons in the finals and finishing third was pretty good work," Head Coach Leo Kocher said. "Senior Pat Mulkerin was a third seed, but put together a good tournament for his championship."

Junior Steve Bonsall (157) and senior John Jayne (184) also had solid outings with two runner-up finishes in their respective brackets. Bonsall had two decision wins before falling to Elmhurst's Keone Derain in the finals, 7-3. At 184, Jayne picked up a pin and a decision win before falling in the finals to top-seeded Mark Miller of Elmhurst, 6-4.

Senior Mason Williams (1-2) picked up a major decision win in the 157 bracket and sophomore Will Britain (2-2) won his first round 165-pound match by major decision before reaching the third-place match with another major decision. He fell in the third-place match in a close one, losing 8-5.
