Peisker Takes Fifth, Sarasin Places Seventh at Conclusion of NCAA Wrestling Championships

ROANOKE, Va. – University of Chicago wrestlers Kyle Peisker and Ben Sarasin concluded their All-American campaigns at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday.

The Maroon duo came into the day with guaranteed All-American status thanks to two victories apiece during Friday's action at the national tournament.

Peisker began the day in the consolation quarterfinals at 184 pounds. The junior defeated Josh Edel (Coe College) by a 9-3 decision, but then surrendered a first-period pin to Khamri Thomas (Johnson & Wales University). In the weight class' fifth-place match, Peisker was awarded a medical forfeit over Dylan Roth (Heidelberg University). Peisker concluded his standout season with a team-best record of 36-7.

At 174 pounds, Sarasin was also in the consolation quarters versus Tanner Vasser of Augsburg University. Vasser edged out Sarasin 8-6 in the match. In his final bout, the UChicago first-year beat Jacob Krakow (Loras College) to capture seventh place. Sarasin's decorated rookie season featured a final record of 32-8.

Peisker and Sarasin became the 26th and 27th All-Americans in UChicago wrestling history.

"Ben and Kyle rose to the occasion for this national competition," Head Coach Leo Kocher said. "Ben battled hard in his losses and wins – being able to bounce back from a loss is crucial to reaching the podium. Kyle was not seeded to place in the top eight, but his fifth-place finish surpassed both wrestlers that placed ahead of him in our regional two weeks ago. That is a timely turnaround."
