UChicago Wrestlers Drop Dual to Elmhurst 33-19

ELMHURST, Ill. – In its first dual meet action of the year, the University of Chicago wrestling team lost on the road at Elmhurst College 33-19 on Thursday night.

Forfeits proved to be a crucial factor on the evening. The Bluejays gained 18 total team points off three forfeits at 125, 141 and 174 pounds. The seven matches that took place split 4-3 in UChicago's favor.

Senior Steve Bonsall had the quickest match of the night as he pinned his 157-pound opponent in the final moments of the first period. He was immediately followed by junior teammate Will Britain's late third-period pin at 165 pounds.

Sophomore Ben Sarasin (5-0 record) maintained his perfect start to the season with a 13-5 major decision at 184 pounds. At heavyweight, junior Will Hare emerged the victor by a 3-0 margin.

"Between illness and injury, we have a dozen people we are trying to get back in action," said Head Coach Leo Kocher. "Our two first-years tonight need a little more college experience, but they battled. It will probably be a few weeks before this team is firing on all cylinders."
