Maroon women's soccer falls 3-1 at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 11-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 3-1 loss at Calvin College on Saturday.

The Maroons evened their record at 2-2-0 while the Knights improved to 3-2-0.

Calvin's Carly Veenstra scored quickly with a goal in front in the third minute of the game. Veenstra struck again in the 20th minute with an unassisted strike that made the score 2-0. The Knights only took six shots in the game, but they made them count with the third goal coming early in the second half at 48:04.

UChicago got on the scoreboard when senior forward Julia Ozello netted her first goal of the season at 66:01. The Maroons ended up with a 10-6 lead in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Piper Mik (2-2-0) took the loss with one save and three goals allowed.
