WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's soccer team kept its perfect record intact with a 3-1 win at Wheaton College on Wednesday night.
The No. 4-ranked Maroons improved to 7-0 on the season while the Thunder fell to 1-6.
The visitors got on the board first with junior midfielder Kelsey Moore's fourth goal of the season in the 14th minute coming off a deflection. UChicago had a pair of close calls with shots that hit the post in the 16th and 40th minutes.
Wheaton eventually tied the score 1-1 in the 35th minute by converting a penalty kick opportunity. But the Maroons answered right back in the 42nd minute when junior forward Mia Calamari set up a goal for freshman forward Adrianna Vera.
UChicago fired off 13 of its 17 total shots in the first half, taking the 2-1 lead into the break. The Thunder outshot the Maroons 6-4 in the second half, but UChicago's defense held up and did not allow the hosts to draw any closer. The Maroons received an insurance goal at the 60:06 mark when senior midfielder Sophia Kim scored off an assist by sophomore midfielder Jenna McKinney.
Freshman goalkeeper Katie Donovan improved to 7-0 on the season, making three saves with one goal allowed in 90 minutes of work. UChicago led shots 17-8 and corner kicks 9-2 on the evening.
