KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 18 University of Chicago women's soccer team escaped with a hard-fought victory with two late-game scores in Tuesday's 4-2 victory at Carthage College.
The Maroons (9-1-1) got the game-winner in the 78' via a Hanna Watkins header off a Rachel Dias corner kick to give the visitors a 3-2 lead and Maddie DeVoe added an insurance goal in the 85' to seal it for UChicago.
Host Carthage (5-4-2), who scored the game's first goal in the 30', tied the match in the 75' to combat two straight UChicago goals.
The first was senior Jenna McKinney's team-leading eighth goal of the year in the 35', followed by rookie Adriana Shutler, who capitalized on an assist from classmate Nicole Willing in the 64' to make it 2-1, Maroons.
Carthage's Libby Snyder gave her squad a chance with her game-tying goal in the 75', but the Maroons' offense did not falter, as Watkins & DeVoe capitalized on the visitors' push.
UChicago out-shot Carthage, 15-6, as well as edged the Lady Reds on corner kicks, 4-3.
Second-half goalkeeper Katie Donovan earned the win while UChicago starter Miranda Malone had two saves in the first 45 minutes.
