GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Sophomore Anthony Restaino won the three-meter board to lead the University of Chicago men's and women's divers at the first day of the NCAA Diving Regional on Friday.
With the win, Restaino earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. His score of 545.90 in the three-meter dive narrowly edged out the runner-up by 0.70 points. Fellow sophomore Matthew Staab took fifth place with a score of 505.40 and senior Bobby Morales was eighth with a mark of 477.80.
On the women's side, senior Becky Schmidt finished in 11th place out of 17 divers in the one-meter dive. Schmidt ended up with a score of 404.25 on her 11 dives.
