GRANVILLE, Ohio – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams opened their season schedule with a dual meet at Denison University on Saturday. The Big Red won the men's competition 188-107 and also the women's competition 182-109.
UChicago picked up five wins by each gender on the day. The Maroons were particularly strong in the backstroke and butterfly disciplines with six combined victories. Freshman Alex Lin stood out in his collegiate debut with wins in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM. Sophomore Kevin Ku topped the field in both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events.
Sophomore Abby Erdmann won her 100-yard butterfly race in very close fashion by edging the runner-up by 0.03 seconds. She was also part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Melissa Bischoff earned her first collegiate victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.83.
