ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In an early-season meeting between two conference foes, the University of Chicago swimming and diving teams lost a dual meet at Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday. The Bears won the men's meet 154-145 and the women's meet 179-120.
UChicago's men won seven events on the day as three different athletes were victorious in two events each. Sophomore Jonas Fowler was first in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM, while freshman Alex Lin kept up his strong season by sweeping the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes. Senior diver Matthew Staab claimed both the one-meter and three-meter boards as well.
The Maroons picked up six victories on the women's side. Senior Jennifer Hill contributed to half the wins, taking both breaststroke events (100-yard and 200-yard) and swimming the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay. Freshman Melissa Bischoff was a multiple winner in the 100-yard backstroke and as the leadoff leg of the 200-yard medley relay.
