CHICAGO, Ill. – After one evening session, the University of Chicago swimming and diving teams lead the field at the Chicago Invitational on Friday.
The Maroons opened up large leads after scoring 500 points on the men's side and 448 points on the women's side. The Illinois Wesleyan University women are second out of seven teams with 217 points, and the IWU men are also second with 216 points.
A total of 12 events were contested on day one. The UChicago men swept all six of their races as three swimmers picked up two victories each. Junior Thomas Meek won the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Mantim Lee triumphed in the 500-yard freestyle, and the duo swam the opening two legs of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Alex Lin was victorious in the 200-yard IM and swam the lead leg of the winning 400-yard medley relay.
UChicago's women won three events, and senior Jennifer Hill earned victories in all three. Hill finished first in the 200-yard IM and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay. Sophomore Alison Wall swam the anchor leg on the 200-yard freestyle relay and the lead leg on the 400-yard medley relay.
