CHICAGO, Ill. – Freshman Connor Turkatte broke a pool and school record to highlight the University of Chicago swimming and diving effort at day two of the Midwest Invitational on Saturday.
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee came away as the winner of the eight-team women's field with 586.5 points. UChicago's women were second with 393 points. On the men's side, Case Western Reserve University topped the seven-team field with 511 points. The Maroon men took third place with 371 points.
Turkatte turned in the highlight of the day with a school and pool record-breaking time of 55.72 in the 100-yard breaststroke. That mark crossed the national qualifying threshold for the 2014 national championships. Senior teammate Andrew Angeles was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a NCAA B cut time of 57.57.
The Maroons tallied three other NCAA B cut marks as well. Sophomore Megan Wall posted a NCAA qualifying time of 4:29.03 to win the 400-yard IM. Junior Ciara Hu recorded a 200-yard butterfly time of 2:06.45 and sophomore Kevin Ku put up a winning 200-yard butterfly mark of 1:51.79.
Sophomore Michelle Law swam to a pair of event wins in the 100-yard butterfly (57.67) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.40). Freshman Emma Madden was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.83.
