UChicago swimming and diving produces close results with Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Senior Day

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams celebrated Senior Day with its final home dual meet of the season against University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Panthers won the men's dual 151-147 and the women's dual 182-118.

Before the start of competition, the Maroons honored their 14 seniors. The decorated class includes Kent BischoffAndrew HomereThomas MeekGabriel NathanJames TaylorMatthew VeldmanBrian WeisbeckerBrian Yan, Karen Chu, Jenna Harris, Ciara Hu, Jen Law, Joyce Lu and Gabrielle Wimer. Over the past three seasons, UChicago's men's and women's teams have both finished 28th or higher at the NCAA Division III Championships, including matching 10th-place showings in 2014.

Law and sophomore Alex Lin provided two of the highlights of the meet as each broke the school record in the 100-yard IM with times of 1:01.63 and 53.59, respectively.

UChicago's men were victorious in eight events on the day, and senior Thomas Meek won all four of the events he swam in. Meek triumphed in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and as part of the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Keenan Novis was a multiple winner in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay, as was fellow freshman Winston Wang in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard medley relay.

For the women, the Maroons grabbed six first-place finishes – four individual events and two relays. Junior Maya Scheidl took three of the four events she swam in by pacing the field in the 100-yard freestyle and as part of the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Daria Wick was part of both relay victories as well and added an individual win in the 100-yard butterfly. Freshman Christina Cheng won the 100-yard breaststroke by a mere 0.04 seconds and swam the second leg on the 200-yard medley relay.
