Maroon swimming and diving places first and second against Lake Forest and Olivet Nazarene

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's swimming and diving teams took first place and the men's team placed second in a tri-meet against Lake Forest College and Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday.

UChicago's women recorded 295 points to easily defeat Olivet Nazarene (196) and Lake Forest (115). The Maroon men finished with 209 points, Olivet Nazarene scored 260 points and Lake Forest ended with 148 points.

The women's team won nine events with the men winning once. Both 200-meter freestyle relays broke the Lake Forest pool records – the men finished in 1:37.30 and the women recorded a mark of 1:50.22. Freshman Anna Girlich earned NCAA provisional qualifying scores on both the one-meter (1st, 261.20) and three-meter (2nd, 267.60) diving boards. Sophomore Monica Kieff also posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark on the three-meter dive (3rd, 230.05).

Karen Chu won a pair of freestyle events on the afternoon. The senior topped the 200-meter freestyle in 2:11.00 and the 400-meter freestyle in 4:34.64. Junior Maya Scheidl was part of the winning 200-meter freestyle relay and took first in the 50-meter freestyle (27.37). Freshmen Cecile Kurman-Browning and Christina Cheng tied for the best time in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.91).

Junior Jonathan Simoneau finished in the top two in three different events. He swam a leg on the 200-meter freestyle relay and was second in the 200-meter medley relay (1:47.62) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:00.27). Senior James Taylor was runner-up in the 200-meter medley relay and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:08.31). Sophomore diver Dean Boures was second in both the one-meter (263.60) and the three-meter (275.45) boards.
