Maroon women’s diving kicks off UAA Championships with win on one-meter board

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Chicago women's divers began action at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming & Diving Championships with the first victory of the meet on Wednesday.

Four Maroons competed in the early afternoon prelims. Freshman Anna Girlich led the field with a prelim score of 407.20. Sophomore Natalie DeMuro was fourth (384.20), freshman Ashley Kang was 16th in prelims (300.90) and sophomore Monica Kieff took 17th (295.75).

The top eight qualifiers from preliminaries moved to the finals later in the day. Girlich upped her performance by posting a winning score of 422.05 points to earn her first UAA title. That mark topped the runner-up by 11.5 points. DeMuro placed seventh overall at 367.85 points.
