ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Big freestyle swims resulted in two new conference records for the University of Chicago swimming and diving teams at day two of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Thursday.

With the second day of the four-day meet complete, Emory University leads the eight-team field with 500 points on the men's side and 665.5 points on the women's side. UChicago's women stand in second place (443) and the men are in third (392).

The Maroons men put up a pair of times that broke UAA records during the evening session. Senior Thomas Meek won the 50-yard freestyle in a record time of 20.09. The previous best conference mark of 20.13 was set last year by Jeremiah Crowley of New York University. The UChicago 200-yard freestyle also put up a record time of 1:21.08, which blasted by the previous best of 1:21.69 (Washington University-St. Louis in 2015). The relay was composed of freshman Alexander Farrell, Meek, junior Jonathan Simoneau and senior Matthew Veldman. Both times would have qualified for NCAA nationals last season.

In total, the Maroons recorded four times that would have qualified for the 2015 NCAA Championships, as well as four NCAA B cut times.

Sophomore Dean Boures earned All-UAA status by taking third in the three-meter dive with a final score of 470.05. Freshman Keenan Novis posted a 2015 qualifying mark of 1:51.30 in the 200-yard IM to finish fourth. The men then closed out of the session with a fourth-place showing in an NCAA B cut time of 3:22.20 via freshman Winston Wang, senior James Taylor, Veldman and Farrell.

The women earned All-UAA status in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing third in 3:49.93 (2015 NCAA qualifying mark). The relay quartet included junior Alison Wall, freshman Christina Cheng, freshman Daria Wick and junior Maya Scheidl.

UChicago secured three additional NCAA B cuts. The fourth-place 200-yard freestyle relay swam a time of 1:35.36 with junior Jessie Ho, Wick, Scheidl and junior Megan Wall. Senior Ciara Hu was fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:06.25) and senior Karen Chu was sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.66).
