ATLANTA, Ga. – First-year Nadia Redza set a new school record and sophomore Reona Yamaguchi earned a University Athletic Association event championship to highlight UChicago's swimming and diving teams on Day 3 of the conference title meet Friday at Emory University.
Redza swam a new program record of 4:26.41 in the women's 400-meter medley to place fourth, as the Maroon women's team captured 10 Top-7 finishes Friday. In the 3-meter diving final, senior Natalie DeMuro again came up big, placing second to earn her second All-UAA honor of 2018 after taking third in Wednesday's 1-meter final.
Yamaguchi, a 2017 NCAA Division III All-American in the 100-breaststroke, captured his first league title in the event after placing second a year ago as a first-year. He swam in a time of 55.02 seconds to earn the Maroons' first UAA title of the 2018 Championships.
In total, the Maroon men captured six Top-7 finishes Friday, as the 800-freestlye relay team of Lance Culjat, Keda Song, Keenan Novis and Taye Baldinazzo,also earned All-UAA nods after taking second with a time of 6:43.22.
After 37 events, the UChicago women's squad stands third with 881.50 points, still within striking distance of second-place New York University (901). Host Emory (1,461) holds a dominating lead heading into Saturday's final day.
The UChicago men stand fourth with 772 points. Emory also leads the men's side with 1,153 points.
