Swimming & Diving Excels in Senior Day Victories Over Calvin and DePauw

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams blew past visiting Calvin College and DePauw University in Saturday's Senior Day triangular meet.

The 12 UChicago seniors were recognized before the start of the meet inside the Myers-McLoraine Pool – Hannah Eastman, Anna Girlich, Naomy Grand'Pierre, Simone Stover, Nora Sullivan, Daria Wick, Alexander Farrell, Michael LeMay, Keenan Novis, Stephen Park, Michael Todd and Winston Wang.

The Maroons then proceeded to dominate their competition. The UChicago women topped Calvin 201.5-96.5 and DePauw 236-59. The Maroon men defeated Calvin 217-60 and DePauw 224-53.

On the men's side, UChicago totaled 14 victories. Five different athletes were multiple winners in individual events. Junior Taye Baldinazzo won both the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Junior Lance Culjat swept the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes, while first-year Nick Ding similarly captured the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly races. Sophomore Keda Song was first in both the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM, as was sophomore Joseph Zhao in both diving events.

The women's half featured 13 Maroon wins, also with five multi-winners. First-year Elizabeth Cron broke the three-meter dive school record with a score of 308.32. She also topped the one-meter board competition with 291.15 points. Both marks were NCAA provisional qualifying scores. Junior Agnes Lo produced provisional scores as well on both boards (272.35 one-meter, 294.67 three-meter) alongside first-year Alice Saparov, who did the same on the one-meter (255.00).

Among the swimmers, sophomore Taylor Hammill raced to the top of the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyles. Sophomore Gillian Gagnard swept the backstrokes at the 100-yard and 200-yard distances. The 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly races were both won by sophomore Hadley Ackerman. Sophomore Nicole Lin was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke.
