CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams had a strong Day 1 of the Maroons' annual Phoenix Fall Classic Friday at Myers-McLoraine Pool.
Overall, the men's and women's squads broke two pool records, one school record and posted nine NCAA B-cuts.
The winning men's 400-medley relay of Byrne Litschgi, Reona Yamaguchi, George Reuter and Arthur Kiselnikov led the way with their school-record and pool-record performance, finishing in a time of 3:15.25.
Litschgi's leadoff 100-backstroke leg of 47.66 seconds was also a pool record and NCAA B-cut and in the second-place B-medley relay effort (who also earned a B-cut as a relay), Keda Song's 100-backstroke also set a personal best and NCAA B-cut with a time of 49.14 seconds.
On the women's side, the winning UChicago 200-freestyle team of Tyler Mandrell, Nicole Lin, Gillian Gagnard and Filippa Kolokotsa (1:34.93) also set an NCAA B-cut as did 1,650-freestyle winner Morgan Simon (17:09.31)
In addition, Audrey Mason – who took third in the 1,650 – also set an NCAA B-cut and personal best. Rounding out the B-cut performances were the women's A & B 400-medley relay teams of Gagnard, Margaret Wolfson, Hadley Ackerman and Kololotsa (second place, 3:49.91) and Mandrell, Lin, Nicole Garcia and Grace Schwieters (third, 3:50.88).
