CHICAGO – With the NCAA national meet on the horizon, the University of Chicago swimming and diving teams hosted the two-day Midwest Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Maroon women took first of five teams (622 points) while the men were second of six teams (505.5 points).
On the women's side, UChicago tallied 10 event victories. First-year Yunfan Dong put up an NCAA qualifying time of 2:02.01 in the women's 200-yard backstroke. Sophomore Alice Ye did the same in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:03.23. Ye also picked up a win in the 400-yard IM (4:29.88). Junior Taylor Hammill was a multiple winner in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.41) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.38).
The men's half featured three Maroon wins. First-year Jota Iwase's time of 1:48.70 in the 200-yard butterfly was an NCAA qualifying mark as well. First-year Alexander Sun (200-yard backstroke) and sophomore Martin Baffico (100-yard butterfly) picked up wins as well.
