Abbey Bernardo is in her fourth season as Head Diving Coach for UChicago in 2017-18.
Bernardo picked up her second-straight UAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year award in 2017. Agnes Lo was named UAA Women's Diver of the Year after winning the one-meter and three-meter boards. Lo earned All-American status twice, taking fifth in the one-meter dive and seventh in the three-meter dive.
In 2016, Bernardo was named UAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year. Anna Girlich was selected as UAA Women's Diver of the Year.
In 2015, Bernardo's divers Matthew Staab and Anthony Restaino both qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships. Staab was Honorable Mention All-American in both the one-meter and three-meter dives, while Restaino was Honorable Mention All-American in the three-meter dive.
Bernardo joined the Maroons after serving as Volunteer Assistant Diving Coach at the University of Illinois-Chicago in 2013-14 and Northwestern University in 2011-12. She also has club coaching experience at Oakton Diving Club (2009-12) and Windy City Diving Club (2012-present). At the club level, Bernardo has helped develop more than 50 Illinois High School state qualifiers, 16 state finalists and one state champion. Many of her club divers have competed in USA Diving Region and Zone meets, with more than 40 who have qualified for USA Diving Junior Nationals.
Bernardo was a varsity diver and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection for the University of Illinois from 2005-08. She earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology at Illinois and her master's degree in sports administration at Northwestern University.
