KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Four members of the University of Chicago women's tennis team reached the quarterfinal round on Saturday in the singles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships.
Senior Megan Tang, sophomore Tiffany Chen, freshman Ariana Iranpour and freshman Jasmine Lee all went 2-0 on the day in singles. Chen went three sets in both of her matches against opponents from Augustana College and DePauw University. Iranpour swept her third-straight opponent 6-0, 6-0 before finally surrendering five total games in her second win of the day. In doubles, Tang and Iranpour advanced to the semifinals with wins of 8-5 and 9-7.
"Today was a historic day for UChicago Tennis," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "We advanced four quarterfinalists for the first time in recent memory and also have our top doubles pairing in the semifinals. The women really picked up their play today and flat out-competed their opponents, which makes me very proud to see. We capitalized on their errors and limited our mistakes, especially in crucial situations. The competition will improve again on Sunday and we know we have to be sharp and ready to fight from the very beginning."
