Maroon Women’s Tennis Continues Successful Run at ITA Central Regional Day Two

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team continued its dominating run of play at day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Saturday.

The Maroons now account for five of the eight quarterfinalists in the singles bracket, and three of the eight quarterfinalists in the doubles draw. All told, UChicago posted an 11-1 mark in singles and a 7-1 record in doubles on the day.

First-year combo of Eugenia Lee and Lauren Park were able to outlast the No. 4-seeds from Washington University – St. Louis. Sophomores Catherine Xu and Daryn Ellison topped the No. 6-seeds from Hope College.

In singles, Lee beat the No. 6-seed from Denison University, while Xu beat higher ranked opponents from Illinois Institute of Technology and Calvin College in three sets each.

  • Eugenia Lee: Won vs. Washington-St. Louis 6-4, 6-4; Won vs. Denison 6-4, 7-6
  • Annika Pandey: Won vs. Washington-St. Louis 6-3, 6-2; Won vs. Case Western Reserve 6-2, 6-0
  • Catherine Xu: Won vs. Illinois Tech 6-2, 4-6, 10-3; Won vs. Calvin 4-6, 6-2, 7-6
  • No. 9-seed Nicole Semenov: Won vs. Kenyon 6-0, 6-2; Lost vs. John Carroll 6-3, 6-2
