Maroon Women's Tennis Sustains Setback to No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 8-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 9 University of Chicago women's tennis team fell to strong No. 2-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by a score of 8-1 Friday to complete the Maroons' Spring Break trip to California.

The No. 2 doubles team of junior Marjorie Antohi and first-year Lauren Park were the lone Maroons to capture a point for UChicago (6-4), as the duo defeated CMS' (15-1) pair of Sarah Bahsoun and Nicole Tan by a score of 8-4.

All three doubles matches were close, as UChicago's No. 1 pair of Catherine Xu and Eugenia Lee took the Athenas to the tiebreaker, eventually falling by a score of 8-7 (7-2). UChicago first-years Lainey Axel and Nicole Semenov also played strong, falling 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Xu put together the best match at singles for the Maroons, winning her first set at No. 2 by a score of 6-4 before falling in three sets in a marathon match.
