UChicago Women’s Tennis Goes 4-1 at First Day of ITA Cup

ROME, Ga. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team stood out with a 4-1 record on Thursday at the start of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup.

The ITA Cup field included the top 16 NCAA Division III singles players and doubles teams from the recent ITA regional championships.

In the singles draw, sophomore Lauren Park got off to a fast start by beating her New York University opponent Karina Jensrud in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). She then moved onto the semifinal round thanks to a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Wesleyan University's Katherine Fleischman.

Sophomore teammate Nicole Semenov drew a conference opponent in Alexa Goetz of Emory University. Goetz won in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation draw, Semenov rebounded past Nina Mitrofanova (Southwestern University) 7-5, 6-1.

The doubles bracket saw first-years Claudia Ng and Perene Wang open up against Skidmore College. The Maroon rookies advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 triumph.
