ROME, Ga. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team concluded its participation at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup on Friday.
The Maroons were represented by two singles players and one double team in the singles and doubles brackets that feature 16 individuals and 16 doubles squads.
Sophomore Lauren Park played in the singles semifinals, where she faced off with No. 3-seed Justine Leong (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps). Leong emerged with a tight 6-4, 6-4 win. Park is now 13-1 in singles this season.
In the consolation half of the bracket, sophomore Nicole Semenov lost in three sets to Miriam Gandham (Vassar College) with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Semenov is now 9-4 on the year.
The doubles quarterfinals saw UChicago first-years Claudia Ng and Perene Wang played a duo from Wesleyan, which the Cardinals won 6-3, 6-2. In their final consolation match of the tournament, Ng/Wang defeated Whitman College 6-2, 6-4. The UChicago tandem ran their season record to 10-1.
"It was a fantastic weekend of competition to wrap up a very successful fall season," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "The women showed themselves to be much improved and really stepped up their level against some of the country's best players. The results from this weekend will definitely give us confidence and motivation heading into the spring season."
